So many of us bemoan our circumstances, struggle to make everything perfect, and lament what could have been. It certainly could have been that way for Linda. Twenty-five years ago she got divorced, no one would have blamed her.

The arguments escalated; He spent more time away from home, taking on a second jobs so she could stay home. He was trying to deal with the changes, trying to make it work. 

Little by little, things fell apart.

Dan resented the drain his family had on his resources. He started “borrowing” $10 or $20 here or there from the grocery bill. Linda didn’t say anything; she knew how hard it was on him. She would suck up the embarrassment when she got to the register and was short. Stripping the cart down to the essentials, she nearly cried when she had to put back the hot dogs and Spaghetti O’s that were supposed to be lunch that week. 

Her own items were always the first to be returned.  The small $1 toys she couldn’t bare to take from her girls.

She quickly found her life spinning out of control. Her finances weren’t her own. Every penny, every dime she had in savings was quickly spent and she watched as all of her dreams were slipping from her fingers.
